Absolutely! If you're not feeling well, please contact our studio 48hrs prior to your maternity session. We'll find an alternate date and time that works better.
Some clients prefer to have their make-up and hair done at a salon of their choice. As such, our Maternity Mini Sessions do not include these services. For those clients who book our Classic sessions (or higher), our make-up artist remains on the set for any touch-ups needed during your photoshoot.
We do not release RAW or unedited files. We treat every session as a dedicated work of art. Providing a RAW file is like a chef serving an uncooked steak and raw potatoes. The ingredients are present, but the craft and presentation are missing. Our job is to curate a vision that begins with our artistic lighting, posing, and ends with our signature editing. The RAW file is simply a rough draft. Only the final, polished image represents the quality we promise you. Releasing unfinished work would share an incomplete story, and be detrimental to our brand. We are committed to delivering only the finest newborn, baby and family photos.
Michael has focused solely and exclusively on family photography over the past two decades. During this time, he has scouted and photographed in many of the hallmark locations in and around New York City, including Long Island City, Tribeca, and Central Park. He's learned which spots offer the best golden hour light, and where the shadows fall. He uses a combination of techniques, including telephoto lenses with a low f-stop and creamy bokeh to compress perspective. These tools—amongst others—result in his iconic style that's drawn praise from clients from all around the world.
Over the years, we've photographed babies of all ages (and attitudes). When babies are unhappy, it's usually because they're tired or hungry. For this reason, we recommend all our baby clients rest before their photoshoot, followed by a hefty meal. In our NYC baby photo studio, we use a variety of tricks to distract them and keep them engaged. Bubbles, feather dusters, and squeaky toys all play a small—yet important role—in capturing those award-winning baby portraits.
Your high school Senior Portraits should reflect your personality, as well as your goals and future ambitions. Please call our studio, and Sophie would be happy to consult you on ideal locations. Are you geared more towards natural settings? Or do you feel more at home on a busy city street? Do you play an instrument, or are you a big sports fan? We'll recommend wardrobe choices, as well as hair and make-up, to complete your senior look.
The most common question Michael gets is "which camera do you recommend?". While today's digital cameras offer many high-end features, it's important to remember that camera is—first and foremost—a creative tool. If you're just getting started, any entry level camera will do the trick. "I recommend a good prime lens, such as a 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.8 to get started. While zoom lenses are often bundled as kits with entry level models, a prime lens will steer your creative energies towards composition, exposure and learning the basics in taking good family photos. Prime lenses perform better in low light, offer a more attractive bokeh (the visual quality of out-of-focus areas), and will hone your skills more effectively." -Michael
The Hamptons are a popular destinations during July and August, and traffic can bring these beautiful seascape villages to a halt. Allow for extra time getting to the beach where your family photoshoot is scheduled to take place. It's also important to note that many of the Hamptons beaches require parking permits, and day passes are not available on weekends. If you're not a resident, we recommend a weekday shoot instead. Lastly, coastal weather can be breezy and unpredictable. We recommend bringing hair pins and scrunchies, as well as a blanket, since many young children aren't comfortable with sand. Family beach photoshoots in the Hamptons are scheduled 1-hour prior to sunset for best light and minimal crowds. If your children go to bed early, we recommend an afternoon nap to ensure a good mood and plenty of smiles :-)
